I originally wanted this page to have an embed linked to my Last.fm, but turns out that only works with Neocities supporter.
Whoops.
I went through the trouble of making an account and linking my spotify, though. So if you want live insight into what I'm listening to; please, take a look at my last.fm account
Here are some genuine contenders for my "Favourite Song".
Coming from a gal who can't decide anything ever:
Synthesis - tn-shi
Discovered through one of my favorite games (<-- this will be a link eventually), Synthesis is a complex speedcore piece that just hits RIGHT. I was conditioned into liking speedcore by my love of rhythm games, and this beats my next favorite speedcore song by juuust a little. That song will also be linked right here in the future.
Twilight - Electric Light Orchestra
My favourite song from my favourite band! Twilight is an energetic synth-heavy pop-rock song from the 80s. ELO's distinct sound draws me to their music like a moth to a flame. Some other of my favourites from them include... (I LIKE A LOT OF THEM, OKAY?):
Mr. Blue Sky, Turn to Stone, Sweet Talkin' Woman, The Whale, Confusion, Tightrope and Livin' Thing
I did think I'd have more up there! That's subject to change, still! I did have a long playlist to look through to find my absolute faves, after all.
These next songs are special to me, but not because of the song by itself. Either it reminds me of a poignant story moment from the piece of media it's from, It brings back personal memories from a place or time in my past or it just has the right ~vibes~ to make it memorable in that way. I'll add context where it fits for each entry, as I've done above. And although I've already described EXACTLY what this next section is. It does still deserve a header.
Songs I arbritrarily hold a soft spot for:
Crossroads - From Hollow Knight (song by Christopher Larkin)
The track that plays during the first area of Hollow Knight. Hearing this track always brings me back to that first playthrough in 2019. I hadn't heard of this game at all and was playing it completely blind with the volume really high since I had the house to myself. It helped a lot with immersion! The cold, desolate atmosphere of Hallownest somehow feels warm and cozy whenever I think back to that moment. (There's not an official upload of this track on youtube!)
Marry You - Bruno Mars (Bruno Mars???? That's news to me)
A BIT in the same vein as the last one, this brings me back to a VERY specific moment in my life. I took dance as a kid and had to learn and perform a routine to this song. My memory from those days is all but extinct, but I believe I fucked this one up BAD in front of the biggest audience a young me could fathom due to being too hungry to focus or something. I believed to this day that this was a christmas song, due to the show being christmas themed. Well, in short, this song brings me back to the feeling of ravaging the little bread rolls they brought in as catering afterwards. A mix of distress and comfort. (p.s. I did not finish that performance. Don't know if I was dragged offstage or went on my own or something. Think I stopped taking dance not long after.)
Millenium Anthem - From Hypnospace Outlaw (song by Jay Tholen)
The whole soundtrack feels this way, to be honest. But it makes me think of the hard-hitting story and sense of community/closeness in Hypnospace Outlaw, which feels almost lost completely in the Internet of today! The melody of this song litters the OST, and to me it symbolizes that feeling, with notes of yearning for the past, yet embracing the future. Hypnospace is probably the reason I'm on Neocities to begin with. It introduced me to the charm and personality of personal websites from way-back-when. I'm also brought back to when I first played it. Winter of '23, if i remember correctly. It's interesting that it makes me think of those times, since the themes fit so well with the general feeling winter, and the holidays in general leaves me with.
Echoes of the Eye - From Outer Wilds (DLC) (song by Andrew Prahlow)
I'd consider this song a HEAVY spoiler for Outer Wilds not because it reveals anything, but simply because of the impact hearing it in its original context HAD on me. And if there's one thing you need to know about Outer Wilds, is that a spoiler is the WORST thing you can do to ruin the experience. If you are not already familiar with this game. Take this as a sign to GET familiar and.. skip the listen : ) The DLC didn't surpass the main game for me, but when I got to the part this plays, I learned just how much it could add to something I already considered near perfect. To me, it perfectly encapsulates the themes of that story, which means so so much to me.
